HOWTO: Yoper 3.0 - a smart error fixing
29 Jun 2007
by swamytk
I had installed Yoper 3.0 on my PC, without additional software installation option. After installation, I try to add CDROM as channel through smart GUI tool. While selecting CDROM/DVD option in channel selection dialog, it was showing "no local media found!" message. It was applicable for command line smart also. Note: I checked the media, it was perfect with checksum.

Some times back I had written a small review on Pardus Linux 2007. I had mentioned that I did not use it for long time, but it is worth to watch this innovative and good performing distro. My production system is Ubuntu based.

I am sure everyone who read this blog regularly knows that I am running Ubuntu on my production system. Ubuntu's performance, features, and all blah.. blah.. all every one in this tux world knows. So I want to present here what I customize in my shiny new Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn). I took just 3 hours to install and customize the entire desktop.

I have translated the static data of Distrowatch in Tamil. So now you can read your favourite Distrowatch in Tamil also. Already Hindi and Bengali versions available. Thank you, Ladislav Bodnar (Distrowatch maintainer) for accepting my translation. This translation has been done from English to Tamil using Anna University Technical Dictionary. Here is a screenshot of Distrowatch in Tamil.

HOWTO: Solve OpenSUSE 10.2 Installation failure
08 Jan 2007
by swamytk
I started OpenSUSE 10.2 installation with a lot of expectation (10.1 version was very slow on my PIII/192MB system). My built-in graphics card is not enough to run the installation in graphics mode, OpenSUSE detected the same and run the installation in console based screen. After partitioing and file copying phases, system restarted for second stage of installation.

As a a traditional UNIX system, Linux systems also followed the static device nodes in /dev directory. During the installation process, /dev directory is filled with most commonly used device files. But modern linux system is not so. While booting the system, the the device nodes are created for the available (only) hardware devices.
