Rocking Bing decision engine

logo-bingCome on guys, at last Google has fitting competitor, Microsoft.

Microsoft’s Bing is really doing very well. At last Microsoft has come out with decent serarch engine (they call it is as decision engine), leaving the crappy MSN search / Live search.  I tested it for last couple of weeks. Here are my observations on this rocking engine. Since Google has become defacto standard for search (Google has become verb for search), don’t mind when I compare Bing with Google.

Bing it!

Bing it!

1. Relevancy wise Web search results are at par with Google, some cases Google is better and in some other cases Bing is better.

2. In Image search category, definitely I feel Bing is the leader now, pushing back the Google. The amazing filters and similar image features are wonderful addons to the Bing. Scroll bar to navigate more result image is also a nice feature.

3. Bing offers Video search results as thumbnails. When mouse is hovered on the thumbnail, it is played.

4. Relevancy is mostly better in case of image and video search.

5. Web interface is similar that of Google, except colorful background.

6. Presentation of search results is pleasing to eye and comfortable to navigate.

Some of these features, I have seen in Google’s test bed called SearchMash. But this site is down for some reason.

It is good sign that Google vs Microsoft competition is getting tougher with this release of Bing. This will help the people to get better search engine cracking the monopoly. Healthy competition leads to better products and affordable price.

After long time, my congrats to Microsoft for the wonderful product. I use bing and google parallely in my system to evaluate more on this.

Any competition for G00gle is good. Have the dumped the pretty picture feature? I only get a grey background when I go to Bing.com.

A beautiful picture cached for a day or a week would be a good draw to users.

my initial test result shows that Bing is as good as Google when displaying relevant search results. Google might be having a tough competitor with Microsofts own search engine.

  3. Jade says:

Bing does give search results much like Google but i would have to say that Google still gives more relevant search results

i have been using the BING search engine for a couple of weeks. it seems to be as good as Google but for some reason i would still want to stick with Google search engine ,-

Well said!

If you have to gain all these other "soft skills" or business skills in order to just be a regular software engineer, then why keep working for someone else? One of the main reasons for being an employee is because it's (supposed to be) both easier and safer than striking out on your own. Instead of long hours and having to wear many hats, you can just concentrate on your own skill, and leave the business stuff to the people who specialize in that. Anyone familiar with the idea of specialized labor should understand this. The downside is (supposed to be) your pay is lower than it could potentially be by owning and operating your own business. If today's corporations want their regular rank-and-file employees to wear many hats, be multi-talented, and have a lot of business skills, then they're simply not doing their own jobs correctly. - Grishnakh (Slashdot user)
